Recently appointed Kramer wheeled loader dealer, Abex Materials Handling Solutions of Birmingham, has delivered an 1150 model on contract hire to Wednesbury Copper Tube of Bilston.

The range topping 1150 model was chosen by Wednesbury, part of the Mueller Europe Group, to handle the scrap copper element of raw material fed into the company’s casting plant which is capable of producing molten copper at a rate of up to 1000 tonne per week for conversion into tubing.

This task has been performed by a succession of Kramer machines over the last 11 years, the German built machines being chosen for their proven reliability in this arduous application. Besides loading scrap copper into skips which are then discharged by forklift into the furnace, the 1150 is also used for various other materials handling duties including directly feeding the furnace using a small bucket should the forklift ever be out of service.

Commenting on the latest Kramer wheeled loader, Wednesbury’s cast manager Sam Butler said: “We’ve had only good experience with our Kramer machines over the years. They are well built, reliable and very manoeuvrable thanks to the 4-wheel steer system and the excellent all-round visibility from the cab is a real bonus when it comes to safe working around our busy site.”

Kramer’s 1150 model is powered by a turbocharged Deutz diesel engine developing 58 kW (79 hp) @ 2300 rpm and offers an impressive ability to lift 2900 kg to a maximum height of 3500 mm.

Abex has been awarded the Kramer dealership for the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire and will trade under the name ICP Handling.
